Köla River (Green Route) GENERAL ORIENTATION: This route starts on the Swedish side of the Norwegian border at the northern end of Lake Askesjön, just where the road passes the straits between Lake Norssjön and Lake Askesjön. At Lake Askesjöns’ southern end you will find a camping and bathing area with a public toilet. The rout goes through agricultural areas and follows the Köla River for the first 35 km. LENGTH: 95 km DIFERENSE IN ALTITUDE: 56 m TRANSFER: 2x70 km ROUTE: Askesjön - Skillingsfors - Koppom - Köla - Åmotfors – Arvika – Värmeln – Sandvikengården MAPS: 11B NO, 11B SO 11C NV,11C SV, 11C SO ( 50.000-del), or open-air map DIFFICULTY: Relatively easy, mainly along Köla River (35 km) and smaller lakes. Often used by families. LAND TRANSPORTATION: 7 times (from 300 to 6.500 meters), but the longest between Glafsfjorden and Värmeln (6.500 m) can be excluded. PROVISIONS: Edane, Skillingsfors, Koppom, Åmotfors, Ottebol, Sulvik, Arvika WATER: we recommend that water is brought in containers, but all cooking can be done using boiled lake water. If possible, avoid using lake water in the vicinity of the population centres you pass. FISHING: Fishing permits can be bought at Sandvikengården. Permit C costs SEK100 per week and canoe. Not valid in Noway or Glafsfjorden! PROBLEMS: Bad weather is only one of the reasons one may need to end the trip at a different place than first planned. You can always contact Sandvikengården if you need to be picked up along the rout, but if possible contact us at least 24 hours before the anticipated pick-up time. |
