Lake Värmeln (yellow route) GENERAL ORIENTATION: This route goes through an old agricultural area where the first pioneers in Värmland settled, mainly Lake Värmeln. Start and finish at Sandvikengården. The canoeing takes place in Värmeln and Little Värmeln, passes Borgvik at Lake Värmelns southern end. The lake shores are sparsely populated and a large number of islands are suitable for camping. LENGTH: 100 km DIFERENSE IN ALTITUDE:0 m. TRANSFER: None. ROUTE: Sandvikengården – Värmeln – Långsjön – Emsälven – Grumsfjorden – Lilla Värmeln – Värmeln – Sandvikengården MAPS: 10C NO, 11C SO ( 50.000-del), eller Arvika Friluftskarta (1:100.000) Översikt nr 19,13 14 och 21. LAND TRANSPORTATION: 3 st. MAPS: 10C NO, 11C SO ( 50.000th part), or Arvika wilderness map (1:100.000) Surveys nos. 19,13 14 and 21. PROVISIONS: Edane (mo-fr 9 a.m.- 7 p.m., sat 9 a.m. -5 p.m., sun 12 noon - 5 p.m), Degerbyn (mo-fr 9.30 a.m.- 6 p.m, sat 10 a.m. -1 p.m.), as well as Grums with several stores. WATER: we recommend that water is brought in containers, but all cooking can be done using boiled lake water. If possible, avoid using lake water in the vicinity of the population centres you pass. FISHING: Fishing permits can be bought at Sandvikengården. Permit C costs SEK100 per week and canoe. Not valid in Noway or Glafsfjorden! PROBLEMS: Bad weather is only one of the reasons one may need to end the trip at a different place than first planned. You can always contact Sandvikengården if you need to be picked up along the rout, but if possible contact us at least 24 hours before the anticipated pick-up time. |
